Active Tropical Wave in Central Tropical Atlantic

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) is monitoring another active Tropical Wave in the Central Tropical Atlantic, with the leading edge of active weather approximately 2100 km east of the Southern Windward islands. 

At this time, Wednesday 12th August 2026, the system is exhibiting some measure of organization with a defined low pressure centre and associated showers and thunderstorms. There is high chance (80 %) of development into a Tropical Depression over the next seven (7) day period. The system is moving westward at approximately 24 km/h and is expected to cross the eastern Caribbean islands over the coming weekend. 

THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO WATCHES OR WARNINGS IN EFFECT FOR TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO.

The TTMS will issue an update to this statement at 2:00 pm tomorrow, Thursday 13th August, 2026 or earlier, if there is significant development of the system.
